So far it’s been a good year….

The first quarter of the year is done, and it has been busy at the JBay Recycling Project. A lot of new friends were made, records broken, old friends re-visited, new stock was tried, designer dresses were sold, and many happy customers brought in tonnes of recyclables.

Some highlights were:

  • Book donation from Friends of the Library
  • Food Lovers Market CSI program allocated R2,000 pm for us to spend on fruit which gets handed out to the children who love fruit.
  • Bernie’s adult clothing & household item sale in March raised R2,460
  • We were visited by 3 groups wanting to start, or expand swop shops in St Francis and around PE.
  • Many the “Monica Zipper” designer dresses have been seen on JBRP customer fashionistas.
  • Record tonnage of 4,529T on first trading day in January (thanks to The Office 4U we were fully stocked with back-to-school stationery at cost!)
  • New stock items in our swop shop include packets of dogfood and stock cubes, both are very popular, and the children love to tell you about their pets.
  • Moore Stephens have, once again, completed our audited financial statements free of charge.
  • Ubuntu backpackers have committed to having our project on their “activities” program and Dan has brought between 5 and 12 cheerful volunteers every Monday
  • So many of our special friends, locally and from abroad continue to visit, promote and fundraise for JBRP: Terese, Maarten, Blanche, Jana, Sharron, the Meeks, Neset, Bredell, Oosthuizen and O’Connor families..
  • Nina’s, Infood, Ocean Basket and Cafe Kima have once again generously committed to take turns to provide a delicious meal to each of our 300 little recyclers once a month, which means that the children get a meal every Monday afternoon!!
  • Enviroman continues to be a reliable and generous supporter of our project without whom the project would not be able to operate.

We will soon celebrate the collection of 500 tonnes of recyclables. Please come and join us on the 8th of May for this landmark celebration. Details to follow.
