What is miniature art?
Miniature artwork according to academic specifications is an artwork with size ranging from 3cm-25cm in any direction. If we look at the origin of the word “ miniature” it dates back to the late 16th century from Italian miniatura, via medieval Latin from Latin miniare ‘rubricate, illuminate’, from minium ‘red lead, vermilion’ (used to mark particular words in old manuscripts).

What is the origin of miniature art?
Miniature art has a long and interesting history. It originated in India around 750 AD when Buddhist Palas ruled in the Eastern parts of India. Small-scale highIy detailed images and messages were painted and drawn on palm leaves.
It is a living tradition with many contemporary artists still pursuing the art form today. In recent years this artform gained popularity on social platforms (#MiniatureArt) as artists explored this art form using various media.

How can MINIATURES be a theme?
Miniature art shows us a different way of seeing things. It awakens the inner artist and often transports us to a specific universe. As artists we hone our perception skills, we determine the message we want to convey and we allow the viewer to see and experience a specific moment that we have captured with our art.

Who can enter?
It is an opportunity for all to participate in the event. It is open to national and international artists. Entrants may submit paintings, drawings, 2 or 3D artworks up to A4 size in any direction. In any medium.

Event
The art will be sold at a blind auction hosted by J-Bay Bru Co on 1 September.
